Yesterday, I had a conversation with a friend about building a business in a way that's in alignment with what your vision is who you are, and what's right for you.

I noticed for a big part of my business, I had this desire to build my business in a certain way. To have certain offering because it felt right for me.

It just lit me up and made me excited.

But what I kept finding myself doing was trying to launch these huge group programs and these bigger high ticket masterminds and things that I get the value and I see the importance of but it wasn't necessarily where my heartstrings were telling me to go at the time.

And the reason why I wanted to bring this up today is because 2020 has been an interesting, crazy, insane, and emotional year for a lot of people.

The way that I've been looking at it is that it's the perfect time to decide for yourself, what is truly the right way for you to go about building your business because it feels right for you.

Because it's exciting for you and because it makes sense for you.

One of the things that I want to make sure that you get out of this episode is some clarity around what it is that you want to build, where it is that you're going, and how it is that you're going to get there.

The reality is, is that there are many ways for you to build a business, there are many ways for you to hit your financial goals, your business goals, and when you look online, there are going to be a lot of people that show you the way that they've done it.

And what often happens is an entrepreneur will look at somebody else and think (aware of it or not), "Wow, I like this piece of what they've done. So therefore I should follow their entire method", or "I like them as a person or they seem cool... therefore I should follow their entire method."

But the reality is, is that you get to choose what makes the most sense for you.

You are the visionary of your business.

And it's up for you to determine where it is you want to go.

One of the best things you can do is sit down and ask yourself where it is that you want to be.

One of the things that I did that was incredibly helpful for me that I really want to share with you is that I sat down and I wrote at the top of a piece of paper, a future date.

For example you can pick todays's month and day, then add one or five years to it.

Then write a journal entry from that date as your future self.

For example, Wow, I'm really excited because I just launched my third book, or I'm so excited because my first book just launched, or I'm so excited, because I just spoke on this stage, or it just launched this program, or my team has grown to this, or we were recognized with an award.

Write everything as if it's has just happened and you're grateful for it.

If you can get clear as to where it is you want to be....

And you can paint that crystal clear picture and you can write like, Hey, this is what life is going to look like for me in five years, this is what our revenue is going to look like, this is what our team is going to look like, this is what my personal life is going to look like, this is what our brand awareness and our branding situation is going to look like, etc.

When you're able to get clear on that. It makes it easier to figure out what you should do now. Based off of that vision, what do I need to be doing for the next 12 months, the next 90 days?

There's no way to do this. Just choose a day in the future, whether it's 90 days from now 12 months from now, five years from now, and write out what life looks like in that moment.

And then once you're clear crystal clear on where it is that you're going to ask yourself, what are the things that I need to do in the next 30 days? In order to move towards that vision?

What are the steps that you're going to need to take or the milestones that you're going to need to hit in order to realize that vision.

Because your goal as the leader of the company, is to get a group of people, even if it's just you clear on where the heck it is you're going, why it is you're getting there, what does it look like when you get there so that you know what it looks like, what it's going to take for you to get there.

And I'll honestly start acting as if I'm already there right now. Do the things that your future self would be doing. One of the things that I've shared on this podcast before, is that if you want something to happen, you have to act as if it's already happened, you have to believe that it's happening, and you need to be the person who has the things that you want.

And one of the things that became really apparent for me is when my dad was telling me, oh, if somebody wants to lose weight, all they have to do is figure out what they need to be eating or doing at the weight they want to be and start doing that now.

Then they will get there.

The former CEO of IBM who was like, Hey, I got really clear on where we were going. And we started acting today, like the companies who are already where we want it to be. And so if you are saying yes, I know where I want to be in the next year, I know where I want to be in the next six months, I know where I want to be in the next five years.

Start being that company today. Start being that person today. Ask yourself, how do you need to show up differently? What do you need to be doing differently? What needs to change today so that you're already in that kind of space and moving in that direction?

Because the reality is, is that the more that you spend time doing stuff, that doesn't feel good, that doesn't make sense, just because somebody else told you that's how they did it, the longer it's going to take you to hit your goals and to realize the vision that you want.

It's not about going well, somebody told me webinars were the thing, or somebody told me to do a masterclass series, or somebody told me to do live events.

Does that feel right to you? Is that the way you want to build your business? Is that something you see your business doing in the next five, 10, 15 years?

If it's not, then start exploring another way.

What I really encourage people to do is find out why somebody has the strategy that they do, why did they choose that strategy?

And if you can understand the why behind it, then you can find another way to get there.

If somebody says to you, wow, I do content marketing on Facebook, because my communities there and I'm able to go live and all this other stuff and you're like, wow, okay, well, all of that is true for me but on Instagram, then you don't have to build a Facebook strategy.

If you don't want to, you can focus on Instagram because that's what's right for your business. Or if you hear why somebody's doing webinars, you realize wow, webinars, I can accomplish that same thing. Doing a Facebook Live, maybe you love Facebook, then Okay, do that.

There's no one way to build a business from a tactical standpoint, like, yes, there's general principles and strategies that hold true for everybody. But it's not like every single business gets to a revenue goal the exact same way.

And so what I really encourage you to do and take the time to do is right now use this weekend, this upcoming week, the rest of the month, the rest of the year, whatever makes sense for you to really get clear on where is your business going, what is the vision you have for it?

What are the things you need to do now in order to get there and stay in alignment with that on a consistent basis, because I promise you if you stay connected with who you are, what makes sense for your business, what your vision is, when you stay grounded in that you're going to get there. It's just inevitable. And if you stay in the mindset of this is inevitable. I'm just going to keep moving there. I'm going to keep getting there, then it's going to happen for you.

Cool. So that is your assignment for today. Let's just get crystal clear on your future vision for your business. And again, you choose how far out you can see right now, do you want to see a year out? Do you want to see three years out? Do you want to see five years  out or 10 years out, pick a timeframe, paint the picture. And then ask yourself, how can you start being that company today? What can you start doing today that's in alignment with who that company is what they're doing things along those lines.

Cool. So I'm so excited to support you. I can't wait to hear what you've got going on. So definitely send me a message on Instagram. And until next time, know that you've got this.
